Physical Theatre as Prayer & Worship

with Melissa S

We will make the invisible visible as we use physical theatre techniques to interact with our imagination to reveal our prayer and worship in our physical action. What is it to act out a prayer in place of speaking it? How can we use our bodies as instruments of praise? Can this be done as a group as well as individually? We will spend some time learning how to express a thought, idea, or action with our bodies, and then we'll move into a time of making our imaginations visible as a means of prayer and worship.
No experience is necessary; we'll start at the basics.
Melissa has a background in modern western theatre, both onstage and backstage. In the last years she has been challenged to step out of the proscenium and examine what her art can look like in a less traditional sense. She is currently exploring physical theatre as worship and intercession. She hopes to see artists and creatives find the places where their passions and their faith can intersect beautifully.

Special Requirements

A place to set the camera down so you are free to move arms, hands, and head. Ideally each person would have space to stand and move in order to engage with the whole body. However that is not required, and the workshop can also be accessible to chair-bound or less mobile people.
