Reveals in Acrylic Ink & Watercolour

with Fiona Fung

This will be a demonstration workshop in using masking fluid and layers of colours to reveal rich depths and added dimension to your work. I will be using acrylic inks, but the technique is similar for watercolours. You can watch or join in, trying it at home, as I take you step by step through the process (See materials needed). Happy to chat about your acrylic ink and watercolour questions too, if I can!
Fiona is a visual artist who uses many techniques; oils, acrylic, acrylic inks, watercolour, henna and more to express the beauty and emotions she sees in nature and people. She has lived and worked in a number of African and European countries and loves the richness of peoples and cultures, especially expressed through the arts. She is one of the organisers of the Global Creative Studio Day, facilitates the online French Creative Studio, and is in cross-cultural mission with Arts Release.

Special Requirements

If you want to try having a go during the workshop you will need:

  • Masking fluid for watercolour/acrylic inks
  • A set of basic acrylic inks: white, black, yellow, red (eg carmine, crimson), blue (eg phthalcyanine, cobalt), raw umber. And/OR a set of basic watercolours of good enough quality
  • Watercolour brushes: a few different sizes from fine to medium/large, better quality ones do help!
  • An old fine watercolour brush, or brush dedicated for masking fluid. Do not use high quality brush as it can easily get ruined with the masking fluid.
  • Watercolour paper, any quality. You can pre mask-tape out a few 10x10cm approx. squares, if you wish.
  • 3 jars/cups of clean water
  • Tissues/kitchen roll
  • Washing-up detergent
  • Optional – old toothbrush
